TermsFeed Free Cookie Consent has no option that changes a text, so replace the title or a button label of the cookie banner with a short script on your page. Every text comes from the translation of the language in use. The script keeps the hosted Cookie Consent script, so your site still gets the fixes TermsFeed ships.

The change takes 3 steps and about 10 minutes. You need access to the page template that holds the Cookie Consent block.

Paste this script above the Cookie Consent block on every page, so it listens before the consent banner appears. Replace the 3 texts with your own.

<script>
  function setConsentBannerTexts() {
    var banner = document.getElementById('termsfeed-com---nb');
    if (!banner) {
      return;
    }
    banner.querySelector('.cc-nb-title').textContent = 'Cookies on Example Store';
    banner.querySelector('.cc-nb-okagree').textContent = 'Accept all';
    var decline = banner.querySelector('.cc-nb-reject');
    if (decline) {
      decline.textContent = 'Reject all';
    }
  }
  document.addEventListener('cc_noticeBannerShown', setConsentBannerTexts);
  document.addEventListener('cc_userLanguageChanged', setConsentBannerTexts);
</script>

The consent banner with the title Cookies on Example Store and the buttons renamed to Accept all and Reject all by the script

Cookie Consent dispatches cc_noticeBannerShown once it inserts the consent banner. It dispatches cc_userLanguageChanged after a visitor picks another language in the Preferences Center, which writes the translated texts again, so the script sets your texts again.

Step 2: Choose the texts the script replaces

Keep a line in the script for each text you replace, and delete the lines of the others. Each text sits inside the element with the id termsfeed-com---nb.

Text Selector English default
Title .cc-nb-title "We use cookies"
Accept button .cc-nb-okagree "I agree" in express mode, "OK" in implied mode
Decline button .cc-nb-reject "I decline", missing in implied mode and with notice_banner_reject_button_hide
Preferences button .cc-nb-changep "Change my preferences"

Write button labels that say what each button does, and keep the decline label as plain as the accept label. Find the class of every other element in Cookie Banner Colors and Custom CSS.

The script sets one text for every language. On a site in several languages, write the texts of each language into the script of that language version of the page. The paragraph under the title and the Preferences Center keep the texts of their translation.

Step 3: Check the new texts on your site

Publish the change and clear your page cache. Close every private window and open a new one, so no earlier answer hides the consent banner.

  1. Load your site and confirm that the consent banner shows your title and button labels.
  2. Click the "Change my preferences" button, pick another language in the language menu of the Preferences Center, and close it. Confirm that the consent banner still shows your texts.
  3. Click your accept or decline button and confirm that the consent banner closes, as it does with the default label.

A modified copy of the script on your own server changes the texts too, but it does not get the updates and bug fixes TermsFeed ships. Read why TermsFeed does not recommend it in Self-Host Free Cookie Consent on Your Server.
