Third-party software is software that is designed to be used on a platform, but that is designed by a completely different company than that which made the platform.
An example of this would be app development firms that create apps that run on Apple, Google, and Windows platforms. Apps that Apple makes for Apple platforms would be first-party apps, while apps that a separate firm or company makes would be third-party apps or software.
